30 Faces in 30 Days: Meet Deidra + Kendra

We’re not quite half way through the month and I’ve already had the pleasure of connecting with 14 women. Not all of them will be featured but I’m glad to be on task with my goal. Next up is mother-and-daughter duo Deidra and Kendra.

I have known Deidra since my college days at Howard University. She’s a teacher, wife and busy mom of four. Her concerns are with the dark rings under her eyes and keeping her skin moisturized. She also wanted tips for updating her color makeup choices but nothing too overwhelming because she doesn’t have a lot of time in the morning.

Skin care tips:

I won’t share what Deidra had been using on her skin (LOL!) but she definitely needs better products to keep her skin clean, balanced and hydrated. She also has some uneven texture around her nose. Limelight’s Quench Cleanse set for normal/dry or aging skin is what we used to cleanse, exfoliate and moisturize. Quench Cleanse, used twice daily, will gently clean without stripping your skin of its natural oils. It is also full of rose flower water, fruit seed oil, and other natural hydrators that will keep your skin glowing day after day. Skin Therapist offers a combination of proteins, oils, and evening primrose to further hydrate and reverse cell aging markers. Skin Polish exfoliates dead and dehydrated cells with jojoba beads so oils from olives, lemon, and cypress can restore and protect your skin.

To hydrate the under eye area and start addressing the darkness, Sotox serum is a great choice. It contains a blend of firming, brightening, and age-reversing actives found in rare algae called Pullulan, and the extract of the Songyi Mushroom to lift sagging skin, smooth wrinkles, and reverse stress-induced aging.

For added hydration at night or to restore her dry skin throughout the day, Must Dew (Palmarose & Sunflower Face Oil) is another great option for Deidra.

Makeup tips:

Deidra’s usual makeup routine is pretty much earth tones. She admits she is afraid to explore color for fear it won’t look right. I showed her how a palette of pinks, plums and browns definitely works with her skin tone, and I made it simple enough for her to do as well. We evened out her complexion with Botanical foundation in MB5 and concealer #5 to cover the under eye darkness but to also brighten. We used eyeshadows 4 and 16 with black eyeliner and mascara on the eyes. And on the lips Creamy lipstick #8 with Dream lip gloss and a plum lip liner.

Miss Kendra is 16 and such a beautiful and talented young lady. I have known Kendra since she was a baby! In fact, when she was 3-years-old, she was a flower girl in my wedding. I won’t share the wedding day story which her mother won’t let her live down LOL! One of the things I love most about Kendra is she truly acts, looks and dresses her age. She wears makeup sometimes but doesn’t overdo it. In keeping with that same spirit, I wanted to show her an easy look that she could do for school. We placed emphasis on her beautiful eyes and kept everything else minimal.

Skin tips:

Kendra has dry skin like her mom, so I used the same products to cleanse, balance and hydrate. This is another reason why I love Limelight’s natural skincare line: It’s great for teens too. I even use the Forty Cure body cream on my 3 and 8 year old who have eczema.

Makeup tips:

Because of the various tones in Kendra’s complexion, I used Botanical foundation MB 5 in the center of her face and MB 6 around the perimeter. On her eyes, I used a pink shimmer pencil only to learn from Kendra that she doesn’t like pink! LOL! So I layered eyeshadow #2 on top and love the pinky-gold color it created. I warmed her crease with eyeshadows 8 and 16 and then did a winged eyeliner with Perfect Eyeliner pen followed by Perfect mascara. On her cheeks, Perfect blush 2 and 3 and Faith lip gloss (no lip liner) to finish the look. I set Kendra and her mom with Perfect Pressed powder. I use this no-color formula on every skin tone from fair to dark.

Now mother and daughter are all set with a back-to-school look that’s natural, enhances their features and simple enough for them to recreate.
